Welcome to the Coffeehouse!

First off, thank you for stopping by my blog. I'm super excited to connect with you!

Just a bit of background on me, I have been a Speech-Language Pathologist since 2011 working in a plethora of settings to include: school, private practice, home health, adult post-acute residential care and adult day programming for individuals with Aphasia (Can you tell I like a bit of variety in my life?!). I am an advocate for functional and meaningful therapy practices for all, and love working with adults with cognitive deficits and my "big babies" aka secondary age teens/pre-teens.

Coffeehouse SLP-the blog has been a vision of mine for years, but procrastination and over-thinking kept me from actually putting in the work. I'm a such a logical person, one who needs to see the end before even attempting to put in the energy to make it happen. I don't believe in energy and time going towards activities that are not relevant or meaningful. I thought to myself, there are so many blogs out there, really another SLP blog?? My answer today is "Yes, another SLP bog!". The excitement in all of this is that each of us brings a different perspective, mixed with our individual passion and personality, that is essential to the cumulative work that we do and the support we provide to each other.

We are often our biggest critics and the self-talk we give ourselves is the most consistent voice we hear. We have to be careful of what we are constantly repeating to ourselves and the energy we are creating within. So to my SLPs and other readers, know you may never feel ready or super confident, but you have the ability to create the energy and motivation to shift your mindset. You have everything you need to do all that you are called to do!

My motivation is community and support. So here it is, Coffeehouse SLP- the blog! For me, the coffeehouse is a total vibe! There is just something about the atmosphere of a nice quaint coffeehouse. I am most inspired when sitting in the corner of a coffeehouse, earbuds in, and in the zone. I also see the coffeehouse as a place to gather with friends and connect. My vision for Coffeehouse SLP-the blog is a place for connecting, sharing and encouraging. We as SLP's are a community, and we support each other!
